During a speaking activity, Ms. Rina notices that several students repeatedly produce sentences such as: “Yesterday I go to the market.” Her first reaction is to conclude that the students have forgotten the simple past tense because they did not study hard enough. Consequently, she spends the next lesson reviewing the rules of regular and irregular verbs. However, during subsequent speaking activities, the same students continue to make similar errors.
